Mom!!
You made me laugh with that bolero comment. That bolero just completely took me by surprise. That thing is HUGE. Its a good thing that I'm not serving around those Sister missionaries anymore, because they almost killed themselves with the small one. If I gave them this HUGE one to play with, I'm certain we would be making an emergency room visit.
But yeah, thank you so much for the package! You guys did a fantastic job of making my last birthday on the mission exciting and bearable! I wore one of the new ties that I received from you yesterday at church, and can I just say that I looked AMAZING? And I've already gotten into some of the candy that you sent me. Elder Taylor approves of Sublime
My birthday was pretty good! I mean, it was a pretty routine day, but a good one nonetheless. We went and did service at the food pantry we go to every week Northside Common Ministries. I absolutely love serving at that place. The best part is that we get to help serve the homeless people lunch as well, and get to eat some of the lunch hat we help serve. The dude who makes the food, Tracy, is basically like a stereotypical Cajun chef, always making fried chicken and popcorn shrimp and stuff. They also get a ton of free cakes from the local grocery store, which they ALWAYS give to us. So of course, they saved me one for my birthday! It was great!
Then, that evening, I got to go to the Stake President's home for dinner. The Stake President lives in my ward, and so Ive gotten to know him and his wife a bit. They didn't know it was my birthday, but they still got some pizza for us, which was sweet. It was like my own personal pizza party! They were very friendly to us, and it was a great way to spend my birthday evening.
For some reason I'm having difficulty remembering what happened this week. It was pretty uneventful for the most part, except for my birthday. But here are a few of the highlights:
- We went to Brother McDermott's house for dinner again this week. He always makes the same thing every time we go there: Jamaican Jerk Chicken and Grilled corn. I'm not complaining, though, because it was FANTASTIC.
- Elder Taylor and I just got back from Jimmy John's Sandwich shop. Meh. But a kind man from the Cranberry ward paid for our food, so no complaints here!
- we talked about optimism and happiness at District Meeting this past week, and me and my district have been sending each other the highlights from our days. It's been pretty fun! Here are some examples:
- "Today, it was probably the blessing of making some sweet caramel brownies. It’s the simple things, and all of our lessons fell through, so... brownies it is."
- "We happened to be inside when it was raining really hard. So we were blessed that we did not get MERKED because of the rain!
"
- "It's not every day somebody will come and OYM YOU. We were walking along, minding our own business, on our way to go and contact a potential investigator. Then some dude yells at us from his porch and asks us if we get paid by the hour, or by each sale. CLEARLY had no idea who we were. So we told him we weren't salesman, but missionaries who share a unique message about Jesus Christ. Long story short, he wanted to know our unique message, and we were able to share a Book of Mormon with him. We've got a lesson with him on Saturday. YAS. Also, when we did end up contacting our potential, someone else answered the door. Not our potential, but she did flash a brilliant smile at us as we walked away from the door. A smile that could melt a thousand snowcones.
It's the little things.
"
-" After much deliberation (5 seconds of conversation), we decided that God definitely blessed us in our lesson with Dolores today. We went from "JOSEPH SMITH CAN'T BE A PROPHET" to "OH that makes sense. I'll definitely pray about that." in a matter of 30 minutes. The Spirit is a real thing, guys!"
It's been fun to reflect on the day and see how the Lord has touched each of our lives. It reminds me of that FHE lesson you gave a long time ago when you gave each of us journals to record how we saw the Hand of the Lord in our lives that day, based off of President Eyring's talk.
Anyways, I can't think of much else to tell you. I'm still here in Pittsburgh. Still chugging along. Still sharing the gospel. Only difference? I'm 20 now!
Love you!
