Mother!!
Wowzers this week has gone by so dang fast!! I feel like I just had P-Day yesterday, and here we are at another Monday. Lots of stuff has happened, some bad, some good, and some just downright WEIRD. Allow me to explain.
Firstly, I'll give you a little update on Rose. We were able to see her on Tuesday, and had a really good Gospel of Jesus Christ Lesson with her. Once again, she practically taught US everything. It was nice, though, because rather than just having Brother Williams teach everything, Elder Toomer and I were able to speak, and he would translate for us. That way, it allowed us to feel more involved in the teaching process.
The bad news? We were supposed to have a lesson with her on Saturday, but we texted her that day, and she tells us that she had to cancel because she's in Florida visiting her sister. Which is totally fine, except earlier that day she told us that she was still good to meet with us and everything. We had already set everything up with the Temple Square Sisters, but then had to call them and tell them the lesson was off. So Rose wasn't at church for the second week in a row yesterday, because she was in Florida. I had everything figured out to get her baptized before I left, but now it's looking like I'm gonna miss the service. I mean, I'm a little dissapointed. I've had really good luck thus far on my mission. I haven't missed ANY of my Investigators' baptisms. I guess this was bound to happen eventually. If nothing else, I'm sure President Bednar will allow me to Skype into the service. And Elder Toomer will send me a picture of Rose in her baptismal clothes. I'm so grateful for the opportunity that I've had to teach her!!
Yvonne came to church again yesterday!! Every time she comes, she always comments on how good she feels there. The thing is, Elder Toomer and I STILL haven't even taught her the Restoration or invited her to be baptized. Every time we try to set up a lesson, something inevitably comes up. So I guess you could call her the progressing investigator who still hasn't even received a lesson. We're gonna try to catch her this week, though!!
We had another cool thing happen to us this week. Since we're deep in the heart of Pittsburgh, studios are ALWAYS filming movies around us. A few weeks ago, they were filming a movie about Mister Rogers featuring Tom Hanks. Last week, they were filming a Netflix show called Mindhunters. And these past couple of days, they were filming a movie called Pickle DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF OUR BUILDING. I think the movie is a satirical comedy about Jewish people. It's probably not very appropriate. BUT. The cool part: We got to see Seth Rogan!! Now, I realize you probably have no idea who Seth Rogan is. But Briana and Sarah do, and probably John, so I figured I'd put it in this email. Elder Toomer and I were walking through an alley way where they were filming, and he was just chilling there. I heard his iconic voice and everything. I was in shock, so I didn't ask him for a picture. A couple minutes later, Elder Toomer and I tried to go back in the alley way, but a bunch of guards stopped us. I don't know how we slipped by them in the first place. But needless to say, it was cool being so close to a Hollywood star.
I had one of the weirdest dinner appointments of my mission on Saturday. It was just bad from the beginning. As soon as we got there, Brother Glorieux started complaining about how he can't find any pants that fit him properly in the crotch anymore. He literally ranted about that for the entire hour that we were there. Me and Elder Toomer were trying so hard not to laugh throughout THE WHOLE DINNER. We kept trying to change the topic, but it always came back to his crotch. It was so awkward.
Towards the end of the dinner, I started talking about how I am just really exhausted all the time, and have difficulty staying awake in the mornings. Sister Glorieux told me that she had a homemade remedy for that, and asked if I would like to try it. I said sure, and so she goes into the drawer, pulls out some magnets, and tells me she's going to forge a mental and physical connection between us. She then starts rubbing the magnets on her head, saying, "Maria, Maria, Maria. Gonzales, Gonzales, Gonzales." Now, I don't know if she was doing witchcraft or WHAT. But I was a little creeped out. It was just a really awkward encounter, and I had no idea what to say or do.
But I was still exhausted this morning, so clearly her spell didn't work.
Another interesting thing that I've discovered this week: I've gained 25 pounds since I've been in this area. I weighed myself on Saturday and came out to be 153 pounds. It seems as though my unhealthy ways are FINALLY starting to catch up to me. I still look really skinny, though, so I don't know where all this weight is going. I think it's all just going to my stomach, which is NOT good. I've noticed my pants are getting a lot more tight. Mom. WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME.
I'm still a little mad at my District Leader. I just try to avoid talking to him as much as possible, unless I absolutely have to. However, we have exchanges this week, so I'm gonna be with him a whole 24 hours. That'll be interesting. I'm sure my anger towards him will dissipate, especially as he'll have a whole day to explain himself. But for now, I'm still just as angry as ever. But like I said last week, I'll likely be out of this area in a few short weeks, so I won't have to deal with it anymore.
I'm sorry to hear about the BYU football game. That sounds absolutely terrible and extremely frustrating. I probably would have been yelling at the TV right along with you. Braden has been doing a great job at emailing me recently, so he's been keeping me up to date as well. He told me that him and Sarah were talking, and that Sarah pointed out that there's only one more home football game without me, and that I'll be home for the next one. that's kinda a comforting fact. I miss football.
Anyways, that's all I've got for you this week. I hope you're doing well. I love you and Dad, and I hope you know that!!
