Hello Mother!!

Well, this morning started off pretty interesting. There we were, chilling in our apartment, doing our personal study, when out of nowhere, our carbon monoxide detector goes off. I didn't really know what to do, but I called the cops immediately and told them about the problem. Then I called President Bednar and told him about it. Me and my companion are currently on the roof of our building, chilling up here while we wait for the paramedics to show up to sniff around our apartment. We don't really know if it was a false alarm or not yet, but we decided to evacuate just to be safe. 🤷‍♂️

This just in: false alarm. Well that was fun.

Anyways, I'm not sure if youve been notified about this yet, but my new trainee's name is Elder Tyler Toomer. He's from Salt Lake City. I guess more specifically, he's from Holiday, Utah? I don't really know where that is, but that's what he said. He's pretty cool, and eager to work hard, which is great. At least, he's normal, which is a blessing in and of itself. He played hockey in high school... Yup. That's pretty much all I know about him.
OH. And he's a Utah fan. I guess President Bednar has a sense of humor.

We're not really best friends at this point. Our personalities are actually kind of different. He kinda reminds me a little bit of Colten Gardner? Like, he was probably a popular kid in high school and had a lot of black friends? If that makes sense? I don't know. We get along pretty well, but it's pretty difficult to have an intelligent conversation with him, or to open up to him and talk to him about my feelings and whatnot. But we get along fine, and we make it work, and he's humble and willing to learn. So what more could you ask for?

I feel a little bad for him. Our training experiences are going to be totally different. While mine was chalk full of teaching appointments, dinner appointments, and baptisms, it looks like his will be primarily composed of a lot of tracting and finding. Poor guy. We're doing what we can to find the elect in this area, but it's been a slow process.

We set a goal this transfer to make it a priority to find a family to teach. In Preach My Gospel, it specifically mentions that we should look for families to teach, so that they can support each other in the gospel. All day yesterday, every time we saw a house with a ton of toys in the front yard, we knocked on that house. It's actually a little fun! I mean, we haven't had any luck yet, but we know that as we continue to exercise our faith, we will undoubtedly find someone like Stephanie and Tyler
We went over to Brother McDermott's house a couple of nights ago. He is a recently reactivated member. His brother came from Jamaica about a week ago, looking for a better life and better work. We were able to get to know his brother a little bit, and even give him a blessing of healing (since he got shot about 3 weeks ago, long story). Even better, he came to church the following day! We sat next to him at Sacrament Meeting, and at the end, he told us that he felt good, that there was something different here. So that's pretty sweet! As you know, immigrants are sort of my specialty, so hopefully we're able to start teaching him pretty soon!

I'm happy to hear that BYU won their first game of the season, ESPECIALLY against a Heisman trophy contender. I'm guessing based off of his performance against Byu he PROBABLY won't win the Heisman trophy haha. But I know our offense was absolute trash last ear, so the fact that we were able to put up 28 points in our first game is a pretty good sign! Hopefully we can find a way to win at home this next week!

I've been doing okay this past week, despite the difficult transition. I have been experiencing a few headaches, and ESPECIALLY shortness of breath recently, both of which are symptoms of anxiety. If you could please just pray that those things go away, I'd really appreciate it. I absolutely hate being a missionary while simultaneously trying to deal with symptoms.

Anyways, that's pretty much it for this week! Love ya!

Elder Gonzales
