Hey Everyone!
Hope you're all doing okay!! This has been a fantastic week! The best part of the week? GENERAL CONFERENCE. Goodness, there is NO better way to finish a week then by hearing the Prophet speak. Trust me. I know.
I've got some stories for you!!
Firstly, Elder Seeley and I felt prompted to go and try a former investigator named Dolores Stevens last week. She had been taught two years ago, but she had dropped the missionaries because she couldn't go to church for three hours. She is an apartment landlord, and she is afraid that if she were to leave for thst amount of time, her tenants, who have children, would WRECK her apartment. Kind of an irrational fear, but I could understand. So Elder Seeley and I decided to give her a try and tell her that church is now only two hours!
We knocked on her door and told her. She still said that was too much. She was VERY concerned about her apartment and what would happen. I told her, okay. Have you heard of the Book of Mormon? She said, I don't believe in the Book of Mormon. I said okay. Can I share a Bible scripture with you?
She said, "Come right in!"
She sat us down and she told us her whole life story. She grew up going to a church that she loved. They treated her like family there, and called her Sister Stevens. They were all so welcoming. She raised a good family with two sons, but her husband left her for another woman. Christ was her solace and her strength.
She told us that she is concerned for her son because he is not a Christian. She asked us if he would go to hell.
She told us that she was concerned because her father died without the opportunity to be baptized. She asked if he was going to hell.
She was concerned because she was not baptized by immersion. She asked if she was going to hell.
She was concerned because her younger brother died as a child and was not able to be baptized. She asked if he was going to hell.
Boy, do we have a lesson for you!
We taught her all about the Plan of Salvation, and she immediately recognized it as truth. She asked when we could come back to share more.
She's been at church for the past two weeks and is set to be baptized on May 18th! Isn't that a miracle?? GOD IS GOOD. He is aware of who we are and what we need.
STORY NUMBER 2:
Elder Seeley and I went to (Plan of) Salvation Army today to look around. Not only did I buy some DOPE shirts, but we had an amazing experience.
As Elder Seeley and I were looking like at some shoes, an old woman taps us on the shoulder. She tells us her name is Margaret and that she has a daughter who is a member of the Church who lives in Heber, Utah. She said that she promised her daughter that if she ever saw missionaries here in Pennsylvania, she would give them money for lunch. We tried to deny the money, but she insisted.
She said her daughter has been a member of the Church for 20 years now. Margaret, the woman we were talking to, has already taken all of the missionary lessons and knows the church is true. However, her husband has banned her from joining the church. Margaret told us that she loves her husband so much, but after he passes away, she will be baptized immediately. And Baptize her husband for the dead and get sealed to him for time and all eternity. And go live with her daughter in Utah.
As we were talking to her, we bore powerful testimony of her decision. She started crying. As much as she loves her husband, she can't wait until she has permission to join the true church of Christ. And have the opportunity to be sealed to him for time and all eternity. I am so grateful to have met that woman. She is such an example to me of dignity, integrity, and patience. I hope someday in the next life I am able to meet her again. She thanked us for our service and we thanked her for her testimony.
All of our other Investigators are doing well! Stu is progressing slowly, but great! He is still on track for Baptism on the 27th! Mayson and Cereneti, the two children I have been teaching for the past two months, will be baptized on Saturday! Good things happening! And I could not be more excited for the Covenants they are making! They are starting off their lives making promises to God! There's nothing better they could be doing!
Anyways, I hope you all had a great week! Love y'all!
